Play in 5 Card Draw begins with each player being dealt five cards face down, one at a time. The remainder of the deck is set aside until after the first round of betting. Players look at their cards and the first round of betting begins.
When playing the game of 5 Card Draw, the betting style usually depends on whether the game is being played at a casino or in a home game. Casino games of 5 Card Draw start with two players to the left of the dealer placing the ‘blind bets’. Home games generally start with all players placing an ante. The first round of betting begins with the player to the immediate left of the dealer and the second round will then begin with the player who opened the first betting round.
If more than one player chooses to remain in the game after the first betting round the ‘draw’ part of the game begins. Each player will specify how many cards from his hand he wants to replace, and then discard the unwanted cards; the player is then dealt the amount of cards he discarded from the unused portion of the deck. Each player will always end up with five cards.
Once all remaining players have finished the first round of draws, the second round of betting begins, always with the player who opened the first round of betting. After that betting round is finished a ‘showdown’ is done to determine the winner of that round of play. The player with the best hand wins the pot.
